It is always a good idea to periodically review the ‘ways and means’ of our congregation. Here is an update on some of the functions and activities at Prince of Peace.
Chancel Flowers
Each week members are allowed to place one or two bouquets of flowers in the chancel area. One family may sponsor both bouquets or two families may each sponsor a bouquet. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a special family occasion and/or to remember a loved one. The flower calendar is on the bulletin board in the narthex. Cost for each bouquet is $22.00.
Sponsor a Bulletin
Another way to celebrate an occasion, and/or remember a loved one, is to sponsor the weekly Sunday bulletins. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the narthex. Cost for each Sunday is $8.50.
Rite of Friendship
After the sermon at weekly worship, the Pastor invites you to greet fellow worshippers and also to sign the friendship books that are located in each pew. Please write your family name, plus the name of each family member in attendance. Circle the names of those members who are communing that day. Changes of address and/or phone numbers can also be noted.
The Newsletter
Each month we print a church newsletter. It contains a message from Pastor, information on coming events, a report on activities in our Child Development Center, and other items that may be of interest to the membership. Any church group that will be sponsoring an event should provide the pertinent information on the event to the church office by the monthly deadline so it can be included in the subsequent issue. The deadline is usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month and is announced in the Sunday bulletin preceding the deadline date.
Women’s Friendship Group
All women of the congregation are invited to join the Women’s Friendship Group. They meet monthly for Bible study, outreach projects and other activities. They also support the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) of our synod and are involved in preparing infant layettes for use at local hospitals.
Fellowship
Potluck dinners are sponsored for special occasions such as welcoming new members. We also have an annual Fall Craft Fair the first Saturday in October and our annual Spaghetti Dinner, usually late winter or early spring.
Music Ministry
You are invited to join the senior choir and/or the praise choir. The choirs meet weekly on Tuesdays. Praise Choir meets at 6:30 pm and the Senior Choir meets at 7 pm. If you are ‘musically-inclined’ in voice or instrument, please talk to our music directors.
Bible Classes/Sunday School
Regular Bible study is important to all ages. Our Sunday Family Education Hour at 9:15 am during September to June includes:
- Sunday school and Bible Class for children, infants through senior high.
- Sunday Bible Class for adults on a broad range of topics also at 9:15.
Weekly Bible studies include:
Life Light on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm
Friday morning class at 9 am.
Additional classes on specific topics may also be scheduled.
Officers and Board Members
The ‘workings’ of our congregation are handled by elected officers and members of the boards of Elders, Trustees, Education, Fellowship, Youth, Stewardship and Evangelism. The boards meet monthly and the Church Council (officers of the church and board chairpersons) meets once a month. Elections are held each year in the fall for terms that begin the following January. Terms of office are either two or three years.
Voters Meetings
The voting members of the congregation meet four times a year on a Sunday between services to review, discuss and vote on issues pertinent to the operation of the congregation. All adult members of the congregation are invited to become voting members.
