Lutherans -- What We Believe

As part of the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, Creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and who rose to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and the Sacraments.  The three persons of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, one God.

Being "Lutheran," our congregations accept and teach the Bible - based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century.  The teachings of Luther and other reformers can be summarized in three short phrases; Grace Alone, Scripture Alone, and Faith Alone.

Grace Alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love.  He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Scripture Alone

The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ.  It is the sole rule and norm for Christine doctrine.

Faith Alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them.  Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers.  God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

We Believe

We are honored to be a part of a
confessing group that worships Jesus Christ
as the Savior, according to God's Word.
We are pleased to commend our church, where
we serve, for the following ten reasons:

First Commendment

We loath legalism and support a ministry that
properly distinguishes between Law and Gospel.

Second Commendment

We're loyal to the Holy, inspired, inerrant, and
authoritative Word of God for all matters of faith
and life.

Third Commendment

We like to listen to the Law-Gospel preaching of
God's Word for our edification and the upbuilding
of Christ's Kingdom.

Fourth Commendment

We believe in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism for babies
and adults alike, for the forgiveness of sins, as is
taught in Acts 2:38-39.

Fifth Commendment

We believe in celebrating the Lord's Supper frequently,
in accord with Christ's command; believing in His
"real presence" of His true body and blood
which are in, with, and under the elements of
bread and wine, received for the forgiveness of
sins (Matthew 26: 26,28; Mark 14:22, 24;
Luke 22:19,20; 1 Corinthians 11:24, 25).

Sixth Commendment

We use a variety of liturgies that are made up of a
confession of sins, absolution, creed, and hymns that
contain Christ-centered lyrics, which focuses on our
relationship with God, which He has restored
through His Son's suffering, death and resurrection.

Seventh Commendment

We like learning about the Lord, and do so
through regular Bible Study and worship attendance.

Eighth Commendment

We stand up, and count ourselves with others who call
themselves "Pro-Life"; because we believe that every
single person, both, born and unborn, are living souls
who are sinners, and need forgiveness which
comes through a Word and Sacrament
ministry (Psalm 51:5; Matthew 28:19;
Genesis 2:7; Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 44:2).

Ninth Commendment

We love the lost.  We consider ourselves to be
among God's Caring People in reaching out to
those of our own parish and community who have fallen
away from regular worship in God's House,
and study of His Word.

Tenth Commendment

We are a church with a vision, but more than that,
we have a vision with a definite commitment.
Our vision and commitment is to grow and continue
to grow. Every single person in this world is a sinner;
and every sinner has a soul. Apart from Christ that
soul would be lost in hell forever.  Jesus Christ
suffered and died on the cross to take away the sins
of the world. He rose triumphantly from the grave
on Easter Sunday, and thereby brings eternal life for
all who believe.  With Christ, you can have life,
and have it more abundantly.  God cares,
and we care too!

These are the ten most important reasons why we exist
as a church. We're here to make a difference, to be a -

"light for the world, the city on the hill that cannot be hidden"
(Matthew 5:14).
